Cardiff Bay
Cardiff Marina is situated on the River Ely on the International Sports Village site within Cardiff Bay. Cardiff Bay is a 200 hectare freshwater lake created in 2001 by the introduction of a 1.1km long barrage. The 3 locks on the barrage are open 24 hours a day 365 days a year allowing easy access into and out of the Bristol Channel.
The construction of the barrage has allowed for the creation of an impressive waterfront alongside the freshwater bay known as Mermaid Quay. With pay and display moorings operating in the heart of Mermaid Quay this area is the perfect place to enjoy numerous restaurants, bars, ice cream parlours, boutique shops and of course the magic of theatre at The Wales Millennium Centre.

The Red Dragon Centre provides further entertainment for all ages with a further selection of restaurants and bars, a multi-screen cinema, bowling alley and casino as well as the famous Dr Who exhibition.
Techniquest is a popular attraction set on the waterfront which has exhibitions, shows and programmes to educate and engage people with science and science-related topics.
In addition visitors can enjoy water sports provided by Adventure Cardiff with their centres in Cardiff Bay and Llanishen Sailing Centre. Activities include rowing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, powerboating and white water rafting.
The International Sports Village site where Cardiff Marina is situated has undergone a huge transformation in the past couple of years. The £1 billion regeneration project is completely changing the landscape of the area. Directly adjacent to the marina the Olympic-standard canoe slalom centre is under construction due for completion in early 2010. The new Cardiff International Pool is only about 150m away offering a fun pool and a training pool. The ice rink is next to the pool with a couple of large supermarkets also on the site. Plans are also underway for a snow box and arena.
